From the Tim Burton’s fantasy comedy of the same name, Beetlejuice has become one of the most popular fancy dress costumes particular around Halloween, given the supernatural connections. One thing people want when they go to a fancy dress party is to be recognised as the character they are supposed to be. There is certainly no doubt about that the character is Beetlejuice, unless of course you have gone horribly wrong.

What makes a beetlejuice outfit ? Well a black and white striped suit, which you will almost certainly not have tucked away in the wardrobe. Some wild white hair which you may own, unlikely probably and if you do you are unlikely to be invited to many parties. Some skilfully (or not) applied make-up and some dodgy teeth. The costume will probably need to be purchased, well the two piece black and white suit anyway. The hair and make-up could certainly be improvised to save a bit of cash.

Once you have the look you will need to get the mannerisms for full effect. Beetlejuice is nothing if not sure of himself and very adept at making trouble. Apparently well meaning although almost certainly not the film character does nothing, if not make an impression. So the question is, should you want to be recognised if you behave like this. Definitely not. It’s at this point a specialist Beetlejuice mask may become an essential piece of the costume.

A mask will also take care of the wild white hair and dodgy teeth, so it’s certainly an appealing extra. However, think about how committed you are to the character as the mask is likely to become quite tiresome after a while.

A Beetlejuice costume is nothing without the wild hair and manic expression. Can you do this on own ? Well you’re a better person than me if you. Costume makers clearly think you won’t be able to as they have provided these fantastic Beetlejuice masks to complete the Beetlejuice costume.

It is surely possible to make the pin strip suit yourself, I don’t know how, but it is surely possible. However, the hair and face are a different thing altogether. The famous Tim Burton character is instantly recognisable from his hair. Even if Beetlejuice is one of the undead then his hair is surely alive.

I would concede that the Beetlejuice make-up is very possible. Pale face, darkened eyes, but at the very least you would surely need a wig

So a Beetlejuice costume comprises three major parts – the black and white suit, the wild white hair and the pale face with dark foreboding eyes.

As you can see we have left a couple of links to point you in the right direction for your purchase.

A Beetlejuice Wig can also be used as a generic madman costume. It’s the wild white hair that does it.
